Ingredients

Cookware

  • 1 bowl
  • 1 pan
  • 1 cheese grater
  • 1 rolling pin
  • One 10 inch (26 cm) tart pan

Preparation

  1. Prepare the pie crust by mixing the flour, salt and butter (cut into small pieces) together. Gradually add in water while mixing. A smooth ball of dough should start to form after a few minutes. When completely mixed together, let stand 20 minutes.
  2. Prepare the Bechamel sauce with the melted butter, flour and milk. Remove pan from heat and add the eggs, cream and the comté, either grated or cut into thin strips. Season with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg
  3. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll the dough out with a rolling pin, line the tart pan with it and fill with the cheese mixture
  4. Bake for about 35 minutes, keeping an eye on the tart near the end of cooking time.

"Lovely recipe, but I did blind bake the pastry case first. Served as starter to a family dinner and everyone enjoyed it."
