Preparation

  1. Boil the milk with the garlic, thyme and clove for 15 minutes. Remove the spices.
  2. Peel, wash and cut the potatoes into thin slices (about 1/8 inch or 2-3 mm) and cook them in the milk for 10 minutes.

  3. Add the crème fraiche, season with salt and pepper, and flavor with nutmeg.

  4. Pour into a buttered gratin dish that has been rubbed with a cut clove of garlic. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 40-45 minutes.
