Ingredients
- 2 cups (50cl) milk
- 2 garlic cloves
- 2 thyme sprigs
- 1 clove
- About 1.5lbs (600g) potatoes
- 5 oz (15cl) crème fraiche
- Salt, pepper, nutmeg

- Boil the milk with the garlic, thyme and clove for 15 minutes. Remove the spices.
- Peel, wash and cut the potatoes into thin slices (about 1/8 inch or 2-3 mm) and cook them in the milk for 10 minutes.
- Add the crème fraiche, season with salt and pepper, and flavor with nutmeg.
- Pour into a buttered gratin dish that has been rubbed with a cut clove of garlic. Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 40-45 minutes.

Precooking the potatoes in the milk makes the gratin nice and creamy!
